Who is Ian Montgomery Klein?

Born on the mean suburban streets of Santa Clarita, California, I have survived years of passive aggression, a poorly executed suicide attempt, drug rehab, and an abusive one-year marriage to bring you…

BOOM-EXPLOSION: a plethora of unpublished writing.

Much of my work is inspired by real-life experiences— which I twist, contort, and heighten into darkly comedic fantasy stories.

In some sense or another, I have always been a truth-seeker, even if at times I was lying to myself about what truth it was that I was seeking. Since I was young, I’ve had an unshakeable interest in discovering the deeper meanings, the deepest truths & possibilities about life and what it means to be human. This was largely helped by my being grounded for the first years of high school after taking the blame for something my former bully did. It's funny what social and familial isolation can do to a kid. Not ha-ha funny, but funny all the same.

Plagued by middle-class distractions and disheartened by the privileges that came along with such a generous virus, I have done a pretty commendable job of seeking out my own unique experiences of trauma and adversity.

I no longer know who I would be without writing or storytelling, and honestly, I am not so sure there would be much of a “me” without the work I have produced and still seek to produce. Writing seems to be my way of processing the world, and my feelings about it. I am sure that is why writing exists for all of us, and I seek to help people find their voices by reading, hearing, or seeing my own.

I am a nerd for allegory and metaphor, which was mostly breathed into me by my fascination (obsession) with anime and manga. My primary interests have been more of a panoply than a spectrum– I love everything from horror to comedy to romance to superheroes to slice-of-life to fantasy to biopics to historical fiction– and I believe this shows in my writing. I would say my through line would be Dark Comedy, which tends to seam together the multivariate genres my stories are constructed with.

To keep things short and sweet– I like writing about humans. Whether that be humans with superpowers, mental health disorders, a mortgage, or some sort of deep narcissism only they are blind to. So, I hope you like to read about humans!
